🌅 Golden Years story

🥣 The Wooden Bowl

← Golden Years Stories

An old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and their four-year-old boy. The old man's hands shook, his eyes were weak, and his steps were slow.

At dinner, his shaking hands sometimes dropped food. Milk spilled from his glass. Rice fell on the floor. The son and his wife grew irritated day by day.

'We must do something,' they said. So they put a small table in the corner of the room. There, the old man ate alone while the family ate together. And because he had broken a plate or two, they gave him food in a cheap wooden bowl.

Sometimes, the old man had tears in his eyes as he ate alone in the corner. Still, the couple said nothing. Only the four-year-old boy watched everything silently.

One evening, the father saw his little son playing with pieces of wood on the floor. 'What are you making, beta?' he asked.

The boy looked up and smiled sweetly. 'I am making two wooden bowls — one for you and one for mummy, for when you become old like grandpa.'

The words hit the parents like lightning. That night, the son gently took his father's hand and brought him back to the family table. From that day, the old man ate every meal with the family — spills, shakes, and all. And nobody minded anymore.
