A milkmaid was carrying a pot of fresh milk on her head to the market. As she walked, she started dreaming.
'I will sell this milk and buy some hens. The hens will give me many eggs.'
'The eggs will become chickens. I will sell them and buy a pretty new dress.'
'When I wear that dress at the fair, everyone will look at me! Boys will come to talk to me...'
'And I will just toss my head and say NO!'
And as she dreamed, she really tossed her head — and the pot of milk fell down. Splash! All the milk soaked into the ground.
No milk. No hens. No eggs. No dress. She learned that day: dreams are lovely, but first hold the pot steady.
