🫙 The Jar of Rocks

← Work & Life Stories

A professor stood in front of his class with a big empty glass jar. Everyone watched quietly.

He filled the jar with big rocks, up to the top. 'Is it full?' he asked. 'Yes,' said the students.

He smiled and poured small pebbles in. They rolled into the gaps between the rocks. 'Full now?' 'Yes!' they laughed.

Then he poured in sand. It filled every tiny space. 'Now?' 'Definitely full!'

Finally, he poured in a cup of tea. It soaked into the sand. Everyone laughed again.

The professor said, 'This jar is your life. The rocks are the big things — your family, your health, the people you love. The pebbles are your job, your house, your car. The sand is everything small — messages, meetings, scrolling.'

'If you fill your jar with sand first, there is no place left for the rocks. But if you put the rocks first, everything else finds its place.'

A student asked, 'And the tea?' The professor smiled. 'It means — no matter how full your life is, there is always room for a cup of tea with a friend.'
