A hare could run very fast. A tortoise walked very slowly. The hare always made fun of him. 'You are so slow!' he laughed.
One day the tortoise said, 'Let us have a race.' The hare laughed loudly. 'A race? With you? Okay, let's go!'
The race started. The hare ran like the wind. Soon he was far, far ahead. He looked back. The tortoise was just a tiny dot.
'He will take all day,' the hare said. 'Let me rest a little.' He lay under a tree and fell fast asleep.
The tortoise did not stop. Step by step by step, he kept walking. He passed the sleeping hare very quietly.
When the hare woke up, he ran to the finish line as fast as he could. But it was too late. The tortoise was already there, smiling.
The fastest one lost, and the slowest one won — because one stopped, and one never did.
