🐘 The Elephant and the Rope

← Youth Stories

A man was walking past an elephant camp. He saw huge elephants standing quietly. He then noticed something strange.

These giant animals were tied only by a small, thin rope to a small wooden peg. No cage. No chains.

The elephants could break that rope in one second. But they did not even try. They just stood there.

The man asked the trainer, 'Why don't they run away? The rope is nothing for them!'

The trainer said, 'When they are babies, we tie them with this same rope. At that age, the rope is strong enough to hold them. They try to break it. They fail. They try again. They fail again.'

'Slowly, they start believing the rope can never be broken. So even when they grow huge and powerful, they never try again. The rope in their mind is stronger than the rope on their leg.'

Many of us are like this elephant. We failed at something once, long ago — maths, speaking on stage, making friends. And we still carry that old rope in our mind. But you are not that baby elephant anymore. Try again. The rope will break.
