His Story

Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, was the beloved prince of Ayodhya — the hero of the epic Ramayana. On the day he was to be crowned king, a promise made by his father sent him instead to the forest for fourteen years. Rama accepted it with a calm smile — for him, a father's word was greater than a throne. His wife Sita and brother Lakshmana walked with him. In the forest, the demon king Ravana kidnapped Sita. With the help of the devoted Hanuman and an army of vanaras, Rama built a bridge across the sea to Lanka, defeated Ravana, and brought Sita home. His return to Ayodhya was celebrated with rows of lamps — the first Diwali.

What He Teaches Us

Rama is called Maryada Purushottama — the man of perfect conduct. He shows how to be an ideal son, husband, brother, friend, and king. He kept his promises even when they cost him everything. He treated the boatman Guha, the tribal woman Shabari — who offered him half-eaten berries with pure love — and the smallest squirrel helping build the bridge, all with equal respect. His name itself is considered a prayer: 'Ram naam' is chanted across India every day.

Festivals

Rama Navami (March–April) celebrates his birth. Dussehra celebrates his victory over Ravana — huge effigies of the ten-headed king go up in flames. And Diwali, the festival of lights, remembers his homecoming.
