🛶 The Empty Boat

← Youth Stories

A young man was rowing his small boat on a river in the fog. He was in a hurry.

Suddenly, another boat came out of the fog and hit his boat hard. The young man burst out in anger. 'Watch where you are going, you fool!' he shouted.

He turned around, ready to fight — and then he stopped.

The other boat was empty. No driver. Nobody. It had just floated loose from the shore with the wind.

All his anger disappeared in one second. He could not shout at an empty boat. He simply pushed it away and rowed on, laughing at himself.

That day he learned something deep. The hit was the same. The damage was the same. Only one thing changed — there was no one to blame. His anger was never really about the boat. It was about his own mind.

Next time someone upsets you, pause and think: maybe they are an empty boat. Tired, lost, or just floating through a bad day. Push the boat aside gently, and row on.

💛 What this story teaches

Most of your anger depends on your thinking, not on what happened. Respond calmly.
