A young boy took care of sheep on a hill near his village. His job was simple but a little boring.
One day, just for fun, he shouted, 'Wolf! Wolf! A wolf is coming!' The villagers dropped their work and ran up the hill to help.
There was no wolf. The boy laughed and laughed. 'You should see your faces!' The villagers went back, upset.
A few days later, he did it again. 'Wolf! Wolf!' Again everyone ran. Again there was no wolf. The boy laughed even more.
Then one evening, a real wolf came. It moved toward the sheep with hungry eyes. The boy shouted with all his strength, 'WOLF! WOLF! Please help!'
The villagers heard him. But they said, 'He is joking again,' and nobody came.
The wolf scared away the whole flock, and the boy sat alone, crying real tears. He learned the hardest lesson of his life: a liar is not believed, even when he speaks the truth.
